Robotics
Our school now has a robotics team participating in challenges organized by a non- profit organization called 'For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology" (FIRST). The team participates at the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) level, designed for 4th to 8th grade students. Each year FIRST issues a themed challenge for teams around the world to solve. The challenge comprises research and engineering components. The former entices the students to investigate an actual problem, develop an innovative solution and prepare a presentation to share their findings. The latter challenges the team to design, build, program, and test an autonomous robot in a themed playing field. At the FLL level the robot is built using the LEGO MINDSTORMS set. In addition to the technical challenges, this program motivates the students to work as a team.
Based on this, our club's goals are
share each other's knowledge and insights with the rest of the team
listen and respect each other?s ideas
look for information and learn about real world problems
improve our presentation skills
participate in FLL tournaments
have fun as a team
The team meets regularly in school during the fall. The team goes to one or two FLL competitions in November and December.
