About our Basketball Program
Leagues: Holy Trinity uses a variety of leagues, in an effort to provide the best possible basketball experience for our students. Some leagues offer B and C level options, which may be more appropriate for some of our teams. The final determination of the appropriate league or leagues for a team will be made between the coach and the basketball director. In some cases, more than one league may be used, or additional tournaments will be entered, to provide a reasonable number of games. Leagues in which we have competed in the past include: Suburban Catholic Boys League, Suburban Catholic Girls League, Union County CYO (Boys and Girls), and Garden State Basketball League (Boys and Girls).
Team assignments cannot be made based on other leagues a child might plan to play in, for other teams. Please be aware, that if your child plans to try-out for a parish or town team, he or she may end up in the same league as the school team. Leagues do not allow players to double roster.
Practices/Games: Practices will begin late October or early November. Games can begin in mid-December and usually continue through March.
Commitment: Students are expected to commit to the team they are assigned to, by full participation in practices and games. There are no minimum playing time requirements in many of these leagues. Coaches will have discretion with regard to playing time and rewarding individual player effort. Students are also expected to maintain a level of academic standing during the season, consistent with their already established abilities. The coach and the athletic director will work with the school administration in deciding an appropriate response to any academic or disciplinary issues that may arise.
Registration Fee: Fees are calculated based on the estimated cost of the regular season league and referee fees, as well as uniform and equipment maintenance. Additional tournaments may be entered, at the discretion of the head coach. Any additional fees associated with a tournament must be covered by the team members. Approximately 25% of basketball expenses are offset by concessions sold during the games and by fund raising. Parents are always needed to help with concessions and hospitality in support of the basketball program.
Medical: A Medical form must be completed and sent to the School Nurse, prior to try-outs.
Volunteers: Coaches are always in need of help and are always willing to teach new volunteers. They especially need score keepers, clock/scoreboard operators and team parents.
